beneath the surface

A little collage happening for the Documented Life Project...

 

 

The prompt for week 5 was "beneath the surface," using the "under-paper" (the paper that you work on top of to protect your desk)...I just love using layers and layers of "stuff"...spray inks, dictionary pages, paint, stencils, scrapbooking paper, stamped tissue...and as I "throw" these pieces together, I think about the layers of our selves, of our lives...how they can be messy (or not), but they work together to make us who we are...that's it...that's just a bit of the "processing" that goes on while I'm "playing" on my pages...nothing heavy...just interesting...

a good reminder

Looking back through an old journal served as a good reminder...not only of what was going on in my life at that particular time, but for now also...When we record life what we are "processing" and the lessons we are learning in our journals we have the benefit (just one of many benefits-hint, hint) of remembering that important lesson or event. And as many of us know, those past "lessons" can be invaluable instructors and encouragement for today.

 

 

An acrylic wash of that happy green paint, scraps of various paper around the edges to create a border, the pointing hand from a Trader Joe bag, pictures of cute boots from an ad, NeoColorII watercolor crayon highlights, and then journaling...tada...and so it was "documented".

  Nov. 9th was my daughter's 18th birthday so I decided to journal 18 things I love about her...along with some collage bits...

But I couldn't NOT :) -you know what I mean- include this quote that has been a huge help to me...PLUS the word of the year is SEE...and this quote is all about the eyes...looking...perspective...the way you see...

 I REALLY enjoyed this theme of giving thanks...and I now will carry these images and processing into December...mindfulness!  :)

 So...its been a while...here is the acrostic I came up with for the word THANKS...its meant to be read like a sentence-ish...     :)

 Fun, fun!  And as I have said before, I just love the meditative focus and process of "working" in my journal...or is it "playing" in my journal?...either way it is ALL GOOD!  :)

next...

September is next...what does it hold?  This is the journal I have chosen for September...it was a lot of scrap pieces of paper (Basic Gray line from a few years ago) that I had left over from a different project...I love the paper and the colors "feel" just right for the beginning of fall...the pieces were all different sizes, and instead of cutting them all to uniformity, I folded them, arranged them in the order I wanted, and stitched them together...scraps transformed to a book!

 

 

 

 

oooh...yum!  Gotta go...this is screaming at me, "Come play!"
