well...

Another art journal page inspired by the Documented Life Project.  The prompt for this was acrylic paint...

This is a Dina Wakley stamp that I stamped on tissue paper and glued down.  I love the scribbly writing on it...you can't read any of it except the first word "well" which I used to inform my journaling (including lyrics from one of my current favorite songs It is Well, by Bethel Music).

Hope all is well with you. Keep creating.  :)

what if?

I'm WAY behind in my Documented Life Project "pages"...but its all for me so I just keep pressing forward...and I love taking their prompts and using them as inspiration for art journaling.

The challenge for this was watercolors...so I played with that for the background...then stamped the leaves (a Magenta stamp) in black to give a silhouette look...next I sponged ink through the window stencil...added the German scrap bird and the Tim Holtz washi tape...spritzed the Hero Arts metallic shimmer gold spray...and lastly I added my "journaling"...

...easy peasy...and my creative self is happy.  :)

oops!

Oops!

My last post got "published" before I got the pictures posted...so here they are...this is the result of playing with stencils and acrylic paints.  This is the envelope I referred to in my last (incomplete) post...

And this is a "print" made from a stencil with the acrylic paint...

Playing and experimenting with supplies is a great way to get to know what supplies can do.  Art journaling is such a great "place" for this kind of play because it is great for creating backgrounds for journal pages...let the journaling fun begin!

best job ever!

I have been teaching classes and so I HAVE to create classes, make samples, put together class kits, organize supplies...and, of course, practice techniques...this is a peek at what I will be teaching at the Stamp Art Shoppe in Roseville on Sat. 3/21...

Too much fun! I truly am blessed to be able to "work" at what I LOVE!
I am so very thankful...best "job" ever!!!

beneath the surface

A little collage happening for the Documented Life Project...

The prompt for week 5 was "beneath the surface," using the "under-paper" (the paper that you work on top of to protect your desk)...I just love using layers and layers of "stuff"...spray inks, dictionary pages, paint, stencils, scrapbooking paper, stamped tissue...and as I "throw" these pieces together, I think about the layers of our selves, of our lives...how they can be messy (or not), but they work together to make us who we are...that's it...that's just a bit of the "processing" that goes on while I'm "playing" on my pages...nothing heavy...just interesting...

playing!

Last month I had the chance to go to a workshop at Kuretake, a company that makes amazing pens, markers...things that make my heart flutter.  :)  (Thanks Sandy @ the Stamp Art Shoppe)

I was able to get some of the products that we used in the workshop and have been "playing" with them for fun...AND for new class ideas...can I just say...too much fun!!!

I wanted to try a "watercolor" technique using the Kuretake Zig Wink of Luna brush pens.

I always start by making a sample swatch to check out colors and "personality" of new supplies.

I thought it would be fun to show the "process" of one of those projects.  I started by wetting the watercolor paper then applying the blue, green, and light green inks to the page. Then I blended the color with a large flat brush...the pigment is so rich and I just love the hint of metallic in these.  I didn't like how "crisp" the edges looked so I spritzed the edges with water, and loved how the ink splattered and softened.  Then I journaled across the page using a medium blue ink that would show but not draw attention to itself.  I decided that I wanted some texture on the page but not collage, so I used the Zig Embossing Pen with a circle stencil and put circles here and there and embossed them...very subtle, and just what I wanted.  Next, I grabbed a Tim Holtz stencil and stenciled the wildflowers over the writing with black ink.  Since I had so much fun with the embossing pen, I drew some swirls on circles cut from dictionary pages and embossed that. Finally, I "grounded" the flowers with text paper and washi tape...outlined the text circles with the light green Luna ink...

Here is a slightly different angle...can you see the texture of the embossed circles?

Well!  That was fun!  I can't wait for my next "play date" with my new toys...I'll keep you posted.
By the way, Have I mentioned how good for you it is to "play" now and then...therapeutic even...try it...do something fun, I mean, good for you this week-end.  :)

"playing" and processing

The last "official" day of summer...wow...it has come and gone so quickly...I have been (of course!) sneaking in moments of journaling time when I have been able...I thought I would share some of what I have been "playing" with...

..."playing" with Tombow water-based markers and a water-brush, Distress Stains by Ranger, Prang watercolors, stencils, and my trusty Sharpie pen..."playing" and processing...
